I do believe that an ancient Greek myth is playing itself out for us in our fair country these days.
Some of my readers may recall the Greek myth of the god Cronus, or as he is known in Roman mythology, Saturn. Cronus has often been confused with and conflated into Chronos, the primordial Greek god who was the personification of time. “Chronos” is in fact the Greek word for “time”.
Cronus is a different character all together.
Cronus was the son of Uranus and Gaia, two other primordial deities. Their names alone add to the story. Scholars theorize that “Cronus” might have meant “the cutter”, the one who cut the heavens. ”Uranus” is the Greek “Ουρανός”, or “the heavens”, and Gaia is the Greek “Γαία”, or the Earth. Uranus was ruler of the heavens, or the universe, and Cronus was envious of his power. Cronus dispatched Uranus by castrating him and then took his place as king of the Titans and ruler of the universe. As Uranus lay dying, he predicted that Cronus would suffer the same fate at the hands of his own children, so Cronus devoured every child that his wife bore to him to prevent this from happening.

His wife Rhea finally manages to hide one of his children, Zeus, from him. Zeus later tricks Cronus into drinking something that makes him vomit up all the children. Thereafter, Cronus does become dethroned by his own children when they band together with the other Olympian gods to defeat the Titans and thereby become the ruling gods of the universe.
It’s a horrid story of the overthrow of an old order by a younger upstart, followed by his own demise at the hands of a younger set of upstarts. It is also a tale of to what extremes the lust for power will drive someone. Just a few moments contemplating Ruben’s painting will deliver that message to your front door.
Shifting paradigms and the transvaluaton of all values is a messy business and you have to have a stomach for it. Just ask the politicians now arguing against a bill that would make it illegal to kill an unborn child simply for the reason that the mother doesn’t want a child of a particular sex.
Yes… there are politicians working to defeat such a bill. You see, murder by gender, or “gendercide”, has now entered the catalog of “women’s rights.” ”These ‘rights’ must be defended at all costs”, so they say.
At all costs. Right. That principle takes on a new meaning since they now see it as everyone’s moral obligation to finance it all. It’s not enough to make abortion on demand legal anymore. Now they insist that every taxpayer, whether or not it violates their religious beliefs or conscience, MUST pay for the state to provide abortions. This is so egregious that, for the first time in the history of the USA, the Catholic Bishops are recommending civil disobedience as a response to this madness. I imagine this surprises you, because the majority of the media have blacked out this bit of news. Too embarrassing for Obama.
It’s almost what one would expect, actually. What else would you expect from a political party that has no qualms saddling their children and their children’s children with a massive national debt and no way on Earth to pay for it? All to finance an entitlement system that is so out of control that it’s mowing down everyone in it’s path that is trying to stop it? Haven’t you heard that Jesus would want you to pawn your kids clothing and toys to make sure all the government employee retirement plans are intact without an iota of change?
We have a regime of self-appointed gods who are devouring their own children and now they want ours as well. And to top it off, they want you to pick up the tab after they are done chowing down.
